This past fall, Pastor Tom and I had a meeting to discuss something that each of us had separately been burdened with—seeing men grow in their relationship with Christ and pass this on to other men and their own families.
Men at SWBIBLE understand and practice Paul's challenge to Timothy to take what we've learned from our Lord and "entrust it to faithful men who are able to teach others also." Just walk into any coffee shop around our neighborhoods and you will see men discipling men; or sit in any elders and/or deacons meetings and you will find "iron sharpening iron." But, our burden has been to excel still more in this privilege of leading—for Christ's sake—in our homes, communities and this church.
Tom and I met and eagerly began praying and strategizing about what this could look like...
The following week, Pastor Scott came back from his cross-country trip of visiting family and friends with a renewed vision for something more for Men's Ministry.
Realizing that God was stirring all three of us with the same burden, we began praying and strategizing together...
During this same time period, Scott and I both had to miss one of the elder’s weekly morning prayer times. On the elders' minds—with no prompting from Scott, Tom or myself—was a great burden to have more opportunities for the men of SWBIBLE to disciple and be discipled. No surprise, our Lord independently and collectively has led us to do exactly what He has asked us to do: "be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2:1-2).
February 24th 2016 marked the first official day, but we are marveling at how God orchestrated it months before! God has already given many more men this same passion to study God's Word and sharpen each other. You are welcome to join in on what God is doing every Wednesday morning from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. as we learn Christ together!
