Home Bible Study Informational VideoHome Bible Studies are small groups that meet together weekly for Christian fellowship, prayer, and Bible study. This adult ministry began in 1980 with one Home Bible Study group of 8 people. It has since grown to 36 studies (involving over 400 adults) meeting in homes throughout the Southwest Portland metro area. Associate Pastor Tom Aylward heads up the Home Bible Study ministry.

When and where do Home Bible Studies meet?
Home Bible Studies meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings, beginning anywhere from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Most Bible studies take place in individual homes, providing a more relaxed, comfortable setting. Home Bible Studies provide an opportunity for you to fellowship with other believers.     Study Scripture - The main objective of this ministry is to provide a small group setting where the Scriptures can be examined, discussed, and applied to our daily lives--thus building us up to maturity, that we might be made complete in Christ (Colossians 1:28). Most Bible study groups follow the pulpit, reviewing the same Scripture text as taught by Pastor Gilchrist at the previous Sunday morning service. The studies are discussion-based.

    Build Relationships - Fellowship includes building relationships, being accountable to one another, and hospitality. Christianity is modeled in these groups and each person is a contributor and participant who adds diversity to the body. Many lasting friendships have developed through these study groups.

    Pray Together - At each study, a time is set aside for sharing praises, requests, and needs with one another and then praying for and about them. Sometimes the prayer time (or perhaps the entire study) focuses on praising and thanking the Lord for His mercies.

    Serve the Body - Ministry is a broad term. As people grow in their relationship to Christ through the study and application of God's Word, a desire to serve others develops. Many serving opportunities are available within Home Bible Studies and a Home Bible Study is also a great place to learn about the ministries at Southwest Bible Church.

Each week Home Bible Study questions are compiled and distributed to anyone who is interested. These questions focus on the sermon from the previous Sunday.
