Associate Pastor

As Associate Pastor, Larry provides oversight, direction and leadership in congregational worship. His main responsibility is providing a music ministry that helps set the atmosphere for worship and participation in congregational worship. Larry became involved in the worship ministries leadership around 1992, and in spring 2005, he was asked to accept a full-time position as Worship Pastor.

"I really enjoy serving the people of God and witnessing the amazing power of God's Spirit and the Bible to transform lives," says Larry.

Larry trusted Christ at the age of ten while attending church with his family. He grew up in Texas in an area where it was common for churches to hold a week of revival meetings. It was during one of these services that Larry was convicted of sin and knew he needed a Savior. "That day in church is a wonderful childhood memory," Larry says.

Larry holds a degree in Electronic Engineering Technology and also served in the Navy, which brought him to Oregon. "During my tour in the Navy, I was invited by a shipmate to his home in Lake Oswego, [Oregon]," says Larry. "Once out of the Navy, we eventually roomed together during our college years in the Portland area. I have never gotten over the natural beauty of the Northwest."

Immediately upon arriving in Portland, Larry searched the yellow pages for a church and found Southwest Bible Church. "I knew this was the church for me." Larry later met his wife, Susan, at Southwest, and they eventually married in 1982. The Elliotts have four wonderful children, Maggie, Peter, Patrick and Melissa.
