Sam has served at Southwest Bible Church since 1978. As Senior Associate Pastor, he directs and develops pastoral staff. "I deeply appreciate working with faithful servants of the Lord," says Sam. He is also Principal Emeritus of Southwest Christian School, which is a ministry of Southwest for grades K-12.

Sam received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of California, Berkeley. Later it was a family retail business that brought him to Oregon, and in 1974, Sam and his wife first attended Southwest, which was then known as Progress Bible Church. "My wife found the church in the yellow pages, and it was close to our house," says Sam, who was not yet a believer at the time. After attending for a few months, Sam came to a saving knowledge of Christ.

Sam and his wife, Lydia, have been married for more than 39 years. They have two sons and five grandchildren. He considers Proverbs 4:18 to be his favorite Old Testament scripture and John 15:7 to be his favorite New Testament scripture.
