Get To Know Our Speaker for Women’s Weekend 2026: Amy McCormick

We are so looking forward to Women’s Weekend 2026: Cultivating Faithfulness. These times together are so precious, and we are excited for all that God is going to do.

This year, our Women’s Weekend speaker is Amy McCormick.

Amy lives in Beaverton with her husband, Jonny, and their 3 children, Max, Emmy Ruth, and Gemma. She enjoys DIY house projects, her faithful pup, Minerva, and she LOVES getting to serve here at SW through facilitating bible studies, teaching and writing about Jesus. When she's not doing that, her school-age kids and her job as a Realtor keep her pretty busy. Amy's husband is on staff with Southwest Bible as the Worship Ministry Director.

Where were you born / where did you grow up?

Most of my growing up years were spent on a 7-acre farm on Chehalem Mountain in Newberg, but I was born at the old Forest Grove hospital and, at that time, my family lived on 20 acres in Scholls-Sherwood at a property that is now 19 Acres Cider Co. and Tasting Room. I encourage you to visit it sometime! The tasting room, our old sheep barn, is just beautiful and there is a miniature train running around the property. I loved the experience of growing up on a farm, and one day… maybe one day I’ll convince my husband that rural life is for us. We did live in Tualatin for a short time before settling in Newberg.

How did you first come to, and how long have you been attending Southwest?

My dad brought me to Southwest Bible after I graduated high school in 2000, so I have been attending here for over 26 years. My dad had been a pastor for my whole childhood, so I’d never attended another church besides the ones he pastored. At the time, my family was attending a small church in Lafayette, but I worked at Nordstrom on Sunday afternoons, so I was looking to attend somewhere closer-in. That, and the tiny church in Lafayette didn’t exactly have a thriving college group, and I think my dad saw the need for me to be a bit more autonomous and engage with my peers more. The first people I remember meeting were Mark & Christie Sherman, who were running the “young professionals” group at the time. I remember meeting Mykele Carpenter and Laurel Walling too, though neither had their current last names yet!

Tell us about yourself: What are a few fun facts about you, hobbies you enjoy, etc.!

This question always feels daunting. I don’t really have any hobbies. If money (and time) were no issue, I would still be riding horses! I take after my mom and love remodeling houses in my mind, and so house projects have become a hobby, if I can DIY them because that, too, is not a cheap hobby. I love my dog, Minerva, and she goes to work with me most of the time. I absolutely love being a mom to Max, Emmy, & Gemma and a wife to Jonny, and it feels like all the activities and demands that come with raising 3 kiddos keeps any time for hobbies somewhat limited these days. The past two summers we traveled to Czechia as a family for English Camp, which was such a fun adventure. I hope there are more adventures like that in our future.

What is your favorite book of the Bible? And why?

Right now, Psalms. The psalms are what I was reading when Jesus finally got through to me. Knowing about him was nothing new, having grown up as a PK, but in a dark season of life he made himself so real to me through the psalms, and I finally surrendered my will to His. The psalms are so rich and honest and honoring and relatable and helpful and comforting. The psalms are for every season of life, but especially the hard ones. Now, a close second is 1 Peter. So intensely practical and so full of hope!

Why is the theme of this Women’s Weekend, “Cultivating Faithfulness”, important to you?

Well, truth be told, I did not select the theme; it was selected for the weekend and given to me. I am grateful for that for two reasons: One, I know the women who put these weekends together. They spend a lot of time in prayer over the topic, over the time together, and specifically over the women of this church who will attend. I trust these women to lead us all well, as they are led by the Spirit into these decisions.

And two, it’s not something I would have chosen, because I do not tend to gravitate toward topical teachings. But you know, as the Lord would have it, this is not only a topic I needed to wrestle with myself, it’s actually one that I have taught on several times before out of different passages and with different emphases for those teachings. But I found that the work I had done in those previous teachings, going back years, and the things the Lord has been teaching me around this idea of faithfulness, all sort of laid a foundation from which I could build on with this topic.

This is a useful, relevant, needed topic for our cultural moment. I have found it to be useful, relevant, and needed for me at the stage of life I am in. This is something I desperately want my children to grasp in a time of so much instant gratification and so little patience for the slow work of faithfulness. We will barely scratch the surface this weekend, but I pray and I trust that the Lord will use it to bear good fruit in our lives.

How can we be preparing our hearts for the Women’s Weekend?

The only thing I would like to encourage our women to do is, if at all possible, come for the whole weekend. The team has crafted this to be a theme that unfolds throughout the 2 days we are together, and the sessions I will teach are really all one main teaching that unfolds over the weekend. Other than that encouragement, I really don’t want to give any “to-dos”. Simply come. Come to be in community with the women of Southwest Bible and let us bless you. You are invited, you are loved, you are prayed for, and I am excited to see you on November 6th.

Please join us for Women’s Weekend! We so look forward to all God has in store for all of us.
